Mississippi State softball uses historic homer, dominant pitching to beat Georgia

STARKVILLE — Mia Davidson’s historic home run propelled Mississippi State to its sixth consecutive win Saturday, winning a 4-2 contest against No. 22 Georgia in Starkville. The six straight wins is the fourth-longest winning streak against Southeastern Conference opponents in school history.

Davidson, a senior catcher, reared back and crushed a dinger over the center field wall in the third inning that made her stand alone in school history. With that home run, she passed Rafael Palmeiro for the most home runs all time by a Mississippi State baseball or softball player with 68.

“I think it’s a great milestone, especially having Rafael Palmeiro behind me and cheering me on and supporting the whole team,” Davidson said. “It’s cool that a past baseball player is really cheering us on and seeing us in our success these last couple of weeks.”

Go inside this beloved Spanish eclectic home in Dallas’ Hollywood Heights

Mary Middleton said she and her husband Randy Spence fell in love with their Hollywood Heights home the second they walked through the front door in 1992. The Spanish Eclectic design, original details and vibrant interior drew them in, and they decided they would make it their mission to maintain its authenticity.

“We decided that we would try to restore it, rather than renovate it,” Middleton said.

The home on Clermont Avenue was designed by Clifford D. Hutsell, a noted architect whose other designs dot the landscape of the Lakewood area (his one-time personal home on Lakewood Boulevard is designated as a Dallas landmark).

Tax records say the house was built in 1946, but Middleton said further research revealed it was actually built in 1932.

The home is 2,187 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, all in their original configuration, Middleton said. The walls of the living

Washington state now has the nation’s most ambitious climate policy

In May 2019, I wrote in Vox that “one weird trick can help any state or city pass clean energy policy.” Spoiler: The one weird trick is electing Democrats.

My home state of Washington elected a whole mess of Democrats over the last several cycles, and it is paying off handsomely. Without much national attention, the last few years have seen Washington quietly put into place the most comprehensive and ambitious slate of climate and energy policies of any U.S. state. (Yes, I’m talking to you, California.)

The state legislature just passed a carbon cap that will reduce economywide greenhouse gas emissions by 95 percent by 2050 (it is awaiting Gov. Jay Inslee’s signature). I want to talk about that bill. But first, to understand its significance, we need to quickly review all the other stuff the Washington legislature has been up to lately.
