STARKVILLE — Mia Davidson’s historic home run propelled Mississippi State to its sixth consecutive win Saturday, winning a 4-2 contest against No. 22 Georgia in Starkville. The six straight wins is the fourth-longest winning streak against Southeastern Conference opponents in school history.
Davidson, a senior catcher, reared back and crushed a dinger over the center field wall in the third inning that made her stand alone in school history. With that home run, she passed Rafael Palmeiro for the most home runs all time by a Mississippi State baseball or softball player with 68.
“I think it’s a great milestone, especially having Rafael Palmeiro behind me and cheering me on and supporting the whole team,” Davidson said. “It’s cool that a past baseball player is really cheering us on and seeing us in our success these last couple of weeks.”
