From Veranda

Between fashion brands like Ganni, Stine Goya, and By Malene Birger dominating the style landscape; companies like Ikea bringing functional home design to the masses; and architectural firms like Bjarke Ingels Group reshaping the way we view and build our cities, it’s needless to say Scandinavian design is taking over. And we’re expecting an interest in Scandinavian design to continue growing as the world sees a greater need for sustainable, soul-soothing design to make our homes—and the world—better places to live and thrive.

We talked to authors of three Scandinavian design books, Rhonda Eleish and Edie Van Breems, of the eponymous design firm and home decor brand, along with Liza Laserow, a high-end Swedish antiques expert, interior designer, and co-founder of Nordic Knots, about the basic elements, history, and future of this widely misunderstood decorative arts style.

The King of Staten Island Is a Love Letter To Pete Davidson’s Hometown Roots

Before Kevin Thompson got to work on the production design of The King of Staten Island, a semi-autobiographical comedy influenced by the life of Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson, he headed straight to the source. Thompson, along with director Judd Apatow and producer Barry Mendel, joined Davidson in his hometown of Staten Island—New York City’s smallest borough by population—to get a personal tour of the comedian’s roots.

The group saw all of Davidson’s haunts—from Denino’s Restaurant, an old-school pizzeria, to the modest homes where he grew up. They instantaneously decided to film almost entirely on location. “We were like, ‘Why don’t we just do the real thing?’” Thompson says. “That way, Pete could smell the authenticity and be familiar and comfortable.”

Harry and Meghan file privacy lawsuit to stop ‘disgusting and wrong’ sale of Archie photo

Royal expatriates Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles paparazzi to stop the “disgusting and wrong” sale of a photograph taken of their 14-month-old son Archie.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Thursday, is an emotion-filled legal broadside aimed at stopping publication of the photograph, taken by an unknown photographer, and the “manufactured feeding frenzy” caused by the paparazzi.

“This action arises out of the relentless and quite frankly shocking efforts of the tabloid media to profit from serial intrusions on the privacy of a 14-month-old child in his own home,” the court papers state. “And the desire and responsibility of any parent to do what is necessary to protect their children.”
